Among the refugees are leaders from various tribes, and not all are willing to surrender to the Han. A resistance movement rises among them, and its charismatic and central figure is a general of matchless skill named (played by Hu Joon Ho). He is portrayed as a true champion of the people, a man willing to sacrifice everything for the cause of freedom.
Episode 1 centers not on the titular Jumong, but on the man who would become his father: . As the leader of the Damul Army, Haemosu is a symbol of resistance.
The episode then shifts between the king's palace and the world of prophecy. King Hae Buru of Buyeo cautiously assesses the attack, seeing the influx of freed refugees as a potential boon that could bolster his kingdom's strength against the Han. Meanwhile, the palace priestess, Yeo Mi Eul, reveals a powerful vision to the king: a three-legged crow appearing in the sun over Buyeo. She interprets the two legs as representing him and his son, Prince Geumwa. The identity of the mysterious third leg is unknown, and its appearance is seen as an omen of great and possibly dangerous significance, hinting at a third contender for power.

As soldiers close in, she gives birth to twins. One is (our hero), and the other is Sayong (a tragic footnote in history). To save Jumong, his mother is forced to make an impossible choice. She places baby Jumong in a wooden box and sets him adrift on the river—a direct parallel to the biblical story of Moses, but with a Korean twist.
The old man hands Jumong a bow and arrow, and tells him to use his gifts to protect his people and fulfill his destiny. Jumong, with a determined look on his face, sets off on his journey, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.

In a scene that sets the tone for the next 80 episodes, young Daeso captures a young girl, (who will grow up to be Jumong’s great love and a business mogul). He threatens to kill her pet bird just to prove his power. Even at this age, you can see the simmering rage and insecurity that will define him.
