Ford's Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) is the legacy factory tool for 1996–2018 vehicles. You must never attempt to program a Ford module using only battery power or a standard trickle charger. Modern modules can pull massive amounts of current during a flash, and voltage drops will corrupt the calibration file transfer.
Ensure your diagnostic PC is running the latest software patches. Ford frequently updates the IDS framework to handle new calibration file compressions.
If a flash fails halfway through, the PCM may lose its bootloader information and stop responding entirely.
