4. Cassie, Maddy, and Nate ( Euphoria ): The Toxic Love Triangle
Unlike most celebrity couples, Megan revealed she had a longtime boyfriend (Pardi) in early 2022, after years of speculation. Their low-key, supportive relationship (he’s a producer who worked on Traumazine ) became a fan-favorite “protect them at all costs” romance, standing in contrast to the drama of her legal battles.
Set inside the high-stress environment of South Korea's national weather service, this workplace romance perfectly mirrored the unpredictable nature of meteorology with the unpredictability of human emotion. The storyline tracked the professional and personal complexities of dating a co-worker, forcing the characters to navigate differing communication styles and workplace gossip.
For many “18 inside” romantics, polyamory was less about liberation and more about avoiding the terrifying vulnerability of being someone’s one and only.
The landscape of romantic storytelling in 2022 was defined by a bold push toward intense, mature, and complex relationship dynamics. As viewers continued to crave escapism blended with raw emotion, creators delivered narratives that explored love through unconventional lenses, including BDSM, forbidden obsession, and high-stakes emotional drama.
Therapy-speak infiltrated dating in 2022. Suddenly, everyone was discussing anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, and love languages like sports stats. The new romantic ideal wasn’t a bad boy or a manic pixie dream girl — it was someone “securely attached” who communicates boundaries and never double-texts.
The most successful relationship of 2022 wasn't romantic. The storyline of "I choose my friends" became the hero’s journey. Women and queer folks realized that the "One" might be a group chat, not a partner. The romantic climax is a spread of pancakes and no crying over a situationship.
