In the demo's initial release (around June 2024), players stepped into a "dark and unknown laboratory," unable to recall who they were or what they had become. The level design led players through claustrophobic corridors overrun with a fusion of biological and machine monstrosities, capturing a distinct horror atmosphere that immediately set Cyan Brain apart from more conventional side-scrollers. The demo was mainly a vertical slice of what was to come, allowing players to test the gunplay mechanics and experience the unique "defeat animations" that would become a hallmark of the series. This early trial concluded with a challenging boss fight against a spider-like mecha girl, serving as a formidable end to the sneak peek.

Demo 8.1 doubles the explorable area of the initial corridor section. Players now have access to the a vast circular room filled with floating terminals. Each terminal plays a 5-10 second audio clip of the protagonist’s past life—conversations with a loved one, a doctor’s diagnosis, the sound of rain on a window. These clips are non-linear; the order you listen to them changes how the demo’s ending narrative unfolds.
